MARLENE MALAHOO FORTE QC, MP, JP, took the oath of office as the Honourable Attorney General of Jamaica, when the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Andrew Holness-led Cabinet was sworn in on 2016 March 7.  She is a third term legislator who has served in both Houses of Parliament of Jamaica: Now as the elected Member of Parliament for the Constituency of Saint James West Central (since 2016 February 25); previously as Opposition Senator, with Senate responsibility for Foreign Affairs & Foreign Trade (2012-2014) and as Shadow Minister of Health (2015 -2016 February); earlier, as Government Senator and State Minister of Foreign Affairs & Foreign Trade (2009 July -2011 December).

While in Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Mrs. Malahoo Forte regularly headed Jamaica’s Delegations abroad, including to Heads of State and Heads of Government Conferences.

With twenty years of professional experience in 2016, Mrs. Malahoo Forte has had a distinguished legal career at both Bar and Bench and as law lecturer. Highly regarded as a formidable, fair and fearless prosecutor in her time in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, she has had an enviably high success rate in the trial and appellate courts.  Well remembered and respected as a no-nonsense Judge of the now Parish Courts, who successfully tackled huge backlog of cases, while disposing of current cases speedily.  She has also been a strong advocate for fundamental reform of Jamaica’s Justice Sector.  As Consultant Counsel at the private bar from her LexFORTE Chambers, she has also successfully appeared at all levels of the courts, including before the Judicial Committee of Her Majesty’s Privy Council in England.

Mrs. Malahoo Forte holds a Master of Public Administration (MPA) Degree & Diploma in Public Policy and Management from Harvard University (USA), a Master of Laws (LLM) Degree in Commercial Laws with further specialty in Financial and Regulatory Laws (Commonwealth Scholar) from King’s College London (UK), a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB) (Hons) from the University of the West Indies (Barbados) and a Certificate of Legal Education from the Norman Manley Law School (Jamaica).  She also holds a Diploma in International Arbitration and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (London, England). Mrs. Malahoo Forte is also a Yale World Fellow and alum of Yale University (USA) and former head girl of Manning’s School (Westmoreland, Jamaica).

Recognized and honoured internationally, regionally and nationally as a high achiever who gets the job done, while finding time for volunteerism: Named Young Global Leader (2010) by the World Economic Forum; Top Young Person in the West Indies (2010) by Junior Chamber International; Kiwanis Club of New Kingston Vueve Clicquot Professional Woman of Excellence and Bigga High Achiever in the Legal & Justice System.  Also named amongst “WHO’S WHO” in Jamaica, Mrs. Malahoo Forte is a past Chairman of United Way of Jamaica’s Women’s Leadership Initiative.
