Melanie Gilchrist is Deputy Solicitor General of the Commercial Affairs Division. She was called to the Bar in 2008. She holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree (Honours) from the University of the West Indies and a Certificate of Legal Education from the Norman Manley Law School. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree (Honours) in History and Political Science. She has been employed to the Attorney Generals Chambers since 2009 and represents the Government in commercial matters.
As Deputy Solicitor General she provides advice to the Government and other public bodies on commercial matters including loans with its international partners, privatisation of public assets, public procurement, public private partnerships, project financing, statutory obligations, pensions and employment matters. Miss Gilchrist is currently a board member of the Transport Authority and the Jamaica International Financial Services Authority.
